Our San Diego's Pacific Rocky Shores Trip (San Diego Bird Festival) took us to the Oceanside Harbor on Friday afternoon, March 6, 2009. We saw this Surf Bird on the rocks at the end of the beach. The Surfbird is one of the characteristic winter shorebirds of the Pacific Coast of North America, and its winter range extends along the entire Pacific Coast of South America. This species is poorly known because of its remote mountain breeding grounds in Alaska and the Yukon Territory. It was a partly cloudy day with temperatures in the low 70's.
